Weight Loss Surgery in Beverly Hills
In recent decades, obesity rates in America and in many countries around the world have skyrocketed. Of all American adults, 35.8 percent are "overweight" and another 25.8 percent are “obese," according to a Gallup poll in October 2011 — meaning that nearly 62 percent of us should lose weight. However, even these numbers may be optimistic, since some survey respondents may not have given their correct weight. These numbers, if true, represent a slight improvement from previous figures — but they do not, by any means, signal that Beverly Hills-area residents should no longer be concerned about fat.
It's the "obese" figure that is most troubling to doctors and public-health officials. If a person is obese, it means he or she has a body fat percentage above a certain amount (32 percent for a woman, 25 percent for a man).

One way to indirectly check for obesity is with the body-mass index (BMI). This does not directly measure body fat, but it is a useful tool for most people to estimate whether they are at a healthy weight or should consider shedding excess fat. You can check your BMI with an online BMI calculator.
Causes of Obesity
Obese patients are all different, and family histories, lifestyle habits, and medical conditions are not the same for any two of them. However, these things can all influence weight.
Risk factors for obesity include:
- Genetics (having parents or ancestors who were obese)
- Not exercising (living in a place where walking places is inconvenient and working at a job that requires prolonged sitting make exercise still more important)
- Eating fatty, sugary, starchy food too often
- Family habits that don't include exercise and healthful meals
- Having recently stopped smoking
- Some medical conditions, such as hypothyroidism
Benefits of Having Weight Loss Surgery in Beverly Hills
If you are obese, several options exist. First, there is traditional treatment, involving a low-calorie diet and regimen of regular exercise. If you have been unsuccessful with this approach, there are also many types of weight loss surgery, including several new procedures. At our Beverly Hills facility, we offer a full range of weight loss services.
The benefits of weight loss surgery are considerable: patients often experience fairly rapid loss of a large percentage of their excess fat. This leads to fewer symptoms of diabetes, orthopedic problems, and other disorders that are complicated or exacerbated by obesity.
